(originally released on my first "Getting Wired" album)
Few instruments rival the sheer majesty and power of the pipe organ. Long a favorite of churches the world over, this instrument adds an aura of dignity to whatever it sets its mind to. I decided to showcase this magnificent, multi-manualed instrument in a number of different pieces, not all of which you would think of as traditional "organ pieces." "Recessional" was composed by me in 1992 for solo organ. I asked the music director at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Boston to listen to a taped recording of it. His comment was, "You really ought to do something with this." I eventually did, but not until I prepared it for my fist album, when I arranged the piece for organ, strings, brass, and choir.
