Cesareo Gabarain was a Spanish priest and prolific songwriter. He composed this and some 500 other liturgical songs, and his work is showcased on some 37 different albums. It is said that his intent was to compose songs that parishioners would find easy to learn and easy to sing. My intent was to give my arrangement a distinct Spanish feel while, at the same time, preserving Gabarain's gentle, distinctive melodies. The instruments used in my arrangement include a whistler, plucked strings, piano, English horn, trumpet, choir voices, and guitar.
