"I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls" is a popular aria from "The Bohemian Girl," an 1843 opera. It has been included in the soundtracks of many motion pictures: "My Darling Clementine," "Naughty But Nice," "Apartment for Peggy," "The Little Shop of Horrors," and the Howard Hawks film, "El Dorado," among others. And, of course, a quite popular version was recorded by Irish singer Enya for her Grammy-winning album, "Shepherd Moons." In my arrangement, a gently plucked guitar and soft choir voices open the piece, as a solo whistler begins the melody and then hands it off, first to a pair of violins and then to a pair of French horns. And so the arrangement progresses until the whistler picks up the melody again and carries it softly to the end of the song.
