I had to wait quite a few years before I was able to create an arrangement for this hit by poet/songwriter Shel Silverstein (The Giving Tree). Two things had to come together: the availability of the sheet music and the necessary number of VST plug-ins to enable me to create an arpeggiated, musical background in front of which to layer the song's plaintive melody. Luckily for me, those two things eventually came about, and, in February of 2020, my arrangement was made possible. Originally, "Ballad" was popularized by both the group Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show and solo artist Marianne Faithful. My arrangement utilizes a number of different synthesizers, a string section, a solo cello, a piano and a variety of percussion instruments to bring the song to life.
