My favorite organ piece is Charles Marie Widor's Toccata from his 5th Symphony. I had read someplace that Widor himself was somewhat annoyed by the fact that every organist who played this monumental work seemed to think it should be played in an up-tempo fashion. He felt the piece was much better presented at a slower tempo. When I tried it that way, it took on an almost rappish quality. So that's the way I treated it. I'm sure, though, that such a treatment isn't what Widor probably had in mind.
